West Virginia requires registration 21 days before Election Day and offers 13 days of in-person early voting. ID is required at the polls.

Early voting
13 days of in-person early voting beginning the second Wednesday before Election Day through the Saturday before.
Absentee / mail-in
Request must be received by 6 days before Election Day. Ballot must be postmarked by Election Day and received by Monday after.
ID requirements
Photo ID or non-photo ID acceptable (WV DL/ID, US passport, military ID, student photo ID, utility bill, bank statement, etc.).
Election Day hours
Polls open 6:30 AM to 7:30 PM Eastern Time. If you are in line at 7:30 PM, you can vote.

  • West Virginia accepts a broad range of photo and non-photo IDs.
  • Mail-in absentee voting requires a qualifying excuse.
  • If you have no ID, a poll worker who has known you for at least 6 months can vouch for you.
