30 days before Election Day.
Early voting
20 days of in-person early voting at your city or town clerk's office, ending the day before Election Day.
Absentee / mail-in
Mail-in application must be received by 21 days before Election Day. Ballot must be received by 8:00 PM Election Day.
ID requirements
Photo ID required (Rhode Island DL/ID, US passport, military ID, government employee ID, or RI Voter ID).
Election Day hours
Polls open 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM Eastern Time. If you are in line at 8:00 PM, you can vote.

Extra info:

  • Without acceptable photo ID, you can cast a provisional ballot and have it counted if your signature matches.
  • RI mail-in ballots no longer require notarization or witness signatures as of 2022.
  • Free RI Voter ID cards are available from the Secretary of State's office.
