Minnesota is one of the most accessible states to vote in. Same-day registration is available at every polling place, no-excuse absentee voting is open to all registered voters, and polls stay open until 8:00 PM on Election Day.

Registration deadline
21 days before Election Day online or by mail. Same-day registration available at your polling place on Election Day.
Early voting
In-person absentee voting begins 46 days before Election Day at your county election office.
Absentee / mail-in
Apply any time before Election Day. Ballot must be received by Election Day to be counted.
ID requirements
Photo ID is not required for most registered voters. Same-day registrants need to prove residency (a wider list of documents qualifies than a typical photo ID).
Election Day hours
Polls open from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM Central Time. If you are in line by 8:00 PM, you can vote.

  • Same-day voter registration is available at every polling place — bring proof of residence.
