Louisiana requires photo ID at the polls and registration 30 days before Election Day (20 days for online registration). Early voting runs from 14 to 7 days before Election Day.

Early voting
Early voting runs 14 days through 7 days before Election Day at the parish registrar of voters' office.
Absentee / mail-in
Request by 4 days before Election Day (mail). Ballot must be received by 4:30 PM the day before Election Day.
ID requirements
Photo ID required (Louisiana DL/ID, US passport, military ID, or other generally recognized picture ID). If none, sign affidavit and provide DOB.
Election Day hours
Polls open 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM Central Time. If you are in line at 8:00 PM, you can vote.

  • Louisiana uses jungle primaries — all candidates regardless of party appear on a single ballot.
  • Acceptable photo ID includes Louisiana's free LA Wallet digital DL.
  • Mail-in absentee requires a qualifying excuse such as being 65+, disabled, or out of the parish.
